Tiger's eye is a member of the chalcedony family, exhibiting parallel intergrowths of quartz and altered amphibole. Its defining traits are a silky luster and the captivating cat's eye "chatoyancy", visible in various bands of light and dark golden browns. This particular tiger's eye was originally golden-brown, but was subsequently heated-treated to approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit to bring out a dark, earthy-red color. Crushed red tiger’s eye is rare because it is often mixed with gold tiger’s eye due to the incomplete heat treatment process of the mineral. When the material is wet, the classic tiger’s eye chatoyancy is strikingly visible. MATERIAL SIZE Our crushed sand-sized material ranges from very fine to coarse sand, and is available in three different size variations: 1mm to 2mm (coarse sand), 0.25mm to 2mm (medium sand), and 0.25mm to 1mm (fine sand). Our sand-sized material is ideal for a wide range of creative projects, including woodworking inlays, memorial and resin jewelry, orgonite pyramids, ring inlay, resin molds, mosaics, terrariums, bezel cups, resin art, embellishments, and metaphysical projects. * COARSE SAND - 1mm to 2mm: medium to coarse sand; narrow grain size distribution with similar size particles * MEDIUM SAND - 0.25mm to 2mm: very fine to coarse sand; wide grain size distribution with an even mix of larger and smaller particles * FINE SAND - 0.25mm to 1mm: very fine sand; narrow grain size distribution with similar size particles MINERAL PROPERTIES Mohs’s Hardness: 6.5 - 7 Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 2.64 - 2.69 Luster: Silk, Greasy Color: Earthy Red Origin: South Africa EXTRA LISTING INFO We prioritize providing high-quality materials for all artisans; therefore, our stones are natural and untreated unless otherwise specified. Photos may showcase both wet and dry crushed stone. Please note that wet stones can appear darker, which may resemble the finished look of the material after it's sealed with an adhesive. We use the metric system for all size measurements, with units in millimeters (mm). Refer to the product photos for a visual guide using a metric ruler (cm/mm).
