Plant part: Needles and wood Note: Top note Extraction method: Steam distillation Properties: Strengthening, soothing, uplifting, stimulating to circulation Pine is known for its disinfecting and antiseptic properties and has been widely used in folk medicine for centuries. It has a refreshing, woody, and forest-like scent with warm, balsamic undertones and a hint of camphor. The oil strengthens the lungs and clears mucus from the chest and throat. It can therefore be used for respiratory infections such as coughs, colds, influenza, bronchitis, and asthma. It is also excellent for steam inhalation when suffering from colds or throat inflammation. Pine oil stimulates blood circulation and the lymphatic system; it can be used in massage oils for rheumatism, joint inflammation, sprains, and strains, and helps flush toxins from the body. When used in a bath, it can also soothe aches and pains resulting from prolonged walking or standing. Pine oil is also said to benefit the urinary tract, especially when used in a bath; it can therefore be tried for urinary tract infections such as cystitis, pyelonephritis, and prostatitis. Pine oil strengthens the nervous system and can be used in aromatherapy for nervous exhaustion, stress-related issues, poor concentration, and fatigue. It can be used by individuals struggling with feelings of guilt, self-reproach, and low self-esteem. These individuals place high demands on themselves, yet no matter what they do, they feel they could have done better. USES SKIN / BODY For a soothing massage oil, use approximately 3–4 drops of pine needle oil in 10 ml of carrier oil (e.g. jojoba or almond oil). SHOWER / STEAM Place 4–6 drops on the floor of the shower stall and pour hot water over them. BATH Mix 1 ml of pine needle oil with 10 ml of neutral organic carrier oil. Pour into running water to ensure the scent disperses evenly throughout the bathwater. INHALATION Add 1–2 drops of pine needle oil to a bowl containing at least 2 liters of boiling water. Cover your head with a linen cloth and breathe deeply. DIFFUSER Add 4–6 drops of pine needle oil to a diffuser. The scented atmosphere will last for 2–3 hours in a 30-square-meter room. BLENDS WELL WITH Cedarwood, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Thyme, Frankincense
