Maija Isola, the renowned Finnish designer, did not accept rules or restrictions and designed a complete collection of bold floral patterns in protest: Unikko, a Finnish word that means poppy. Today, Unikko is one of Marimekko's best-known patterns and recognised around the world. Founded in 1951, Marimekko is a celebrated Finnish design house known for its bold, iconic prints.
