DV Catena L'Esploratore Salta Malbec 2024
Description DV Catena L'Esploratore Salta Malbec 2024 is an exceptional high-altitude red wine crafted by Catena Zapata, exploring the unique mountain terroir of Cafayate, Salta. Sourced from vineyards situated at 1,600 meters above sea level in northern Argentina, this 100% Malbec reflects the intense solar exposure, sharp temperature variation, and distinct identity of the Calchaquí Valleys. Under the direction of head winemaker Alejandro Vigil, the grapes undergo pre-fermentative cold maceration for 2 to 8 days, followed by a 17-day fermentation in French oak barrels and foudres (225, 500, and 2,000 liters). The wine is then aged for 8 to 24 months in French oak barrels (35% new, along with second and third-use barrels), striking a remarkable balance between raw high-altitude power and elegant refinement. "On the palate, it is deep and intense, boasting great body and structure, firm and strict tannins, and a remarkably long, persistent finish."
