Flea Market Item - Friand Tin Fancies 9

A charming collection of vintage French sewing notions in an old friand tin that we think would make a perfect pincushion! Nestled inside are gorgeous little pieces of French mercerie history that we have found during our adventures in the French markets. The set includes an original black and gold “Assortiment Complet” needle wallet, still holding a generous selection of hand-sewing needles, a traditional metal thimble, and two reels of fine mercerised thread in black and warm rust. The black thread is on a wonderful wooden reel labelled Walbert Frères, Lille – 200 yards / 183 metres, while the rust thread retains its original paper-ended spool. Also included is an appealing original “Mode Parisienne – Made in France” card holding six peach-pink buttons. The typography, original packaging and muted colours give this group a wonderful old French sewing-box character. We would date most of the pieces to approximately the 1930s–50s
