Arkaroola Hills
Merino & suffolk wool, assorted fabrics, yarns framed.Wet felting, hand dyed wool & fabric, free machine stitching, hand-stitch – Growing up on a merino sheep property in South Australia and learning different techniques with wool, such as spinning, dying wool using native plant material has continued throughout my life. My creative practise includes felting 2D wall works and 3D felt sculptures with fleeces which I have washed, carded and dyed. This work is produced using an intuitive layering of wool fibre and fabrics and then machine & hand embroidery.“Arkaroola Hills “is inspired from teaching workshops in the Northern Flinders Ranges in South Australia at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. Here we share ideas and are inspired by the landscape such as red cliffs, waterholes and native plants. The inspiration comes from an emotional response to my surrounding landscape. I use felt as it is an ecological, sustainable textile. 70x50cm
