Avicularia huriana — Ecuadorian Woolly Pink Toe Avicularia huriana is a beautiful Ecuadorian pink toe with a soft, woolly appearance and the classic arboreal lifestyle that makes Avicularia so fascinating to keep. This species is especially appealing when you want an active web-building tarantula with an elegant look and plenty of personality. ⚠️ Special Notices Arboreal setup: Avicularia huriana appreciates vertical space, good ventilation, and plenty of anchor points for webbing. Give this species room to establish a secure web retreat and keep the enclosure well ventilated rather than swampy. Warmer temperatures usually mean faster growth because the tarantula molts more often. 💧 Humidity Around 75–80% inside the enclosure, with good ventilation. Keep the substrate appropriately moist without making the enclosure swampy or bone-dry. 🏠 Housing Babies A small vial up to about 5 inches tall x 2 inches in diameter with ventilation works well. A FREE vial is available at checkout IF requested; it is not included otherwise. Juveniles Once over about 2 inches, move into a vertically oriented enclosure around 7–8 inches tall with ventilation, substrate, and secure webbing anchor points. Adults A vertical enclosure around 12–16 inches tall is a good starting point. Provide enough height for webbing while keeping the enclosure secure and easy to maintain. 🍽️ General Diet Crickets + roaches (Dubia, Red Runner, Lobster) make an excellent staple diet. Babies can take baby crickets and appropriately sized roaches. If prey is too large, pre-kill it by crushing the head, leave it in the enclosure, and remove leftovers or the bolus afterward. We never use pinhead crickets because they do not provide enough protein. For super large specimens, an occasional pinky/hopper mouse or feeder lizard can be offered very sparingly; excess calcium can cause constipation and pooping issues. 📚 In-depth Facts 🕷️ Latin name / Scientific name Avicularia huriana 📛 Common name(s) Ecuadorian Woolly Pink Toe 🌡️ Temperature 75–85°F (24–29°C) 💧 Humidity 75–80% inside the enclosure with good ventilation; avoid swampy or bone-dry conditions. 📍 Locale Ecuador 🏷️ Category New World arboreal; strong webbing species. Venom strength varies by species; Old World tarantulas are usually more potent than New World tarantulas, with Poecilotheria known for especially strong venom. Larger tarantulas may also deliver more venom. If bitten, stay calm. Most symptoms fade within minutes to hours, though potent species may cause discomfort for up to a week. In 13 years, I’ve only been bitten once, and symptoms were gone after one week. Handling is at your own risk. I’m not responsible for bites or injuries. Always prioritize your safety and the tarantula’s well-being.
