Pair of 19th C French Hand-Blown Bonbon Jars with Original Marble Collections
Discovered in the South of France, we are delighted to present this exceptionally rare, matching pair of large 19th-century footed glass bonbon jars, still containing their historic contents. These jars are a tactile testament to 19th-century craftsmanship. Hand-blown, they possess a unique character defined by irregularities and charming little air bubbles, frozen within the thick glass structure. The glass has aged with grace; a gentle internal clouding adds a soft, historic glow that cannot be replicated, and the original faceted lids show only minor, traces of time. There are no chips or cracks. This set is truly a conversation piece, telling two stories: Jar One (Half-Filled): This jar houses a curated collection of antique earthenware and clay marbles, still bearing their subtle, natural mineral pigments from the 1800s. It offers a rare window into the simple toys of another era. Jar Two (Brim-Full): This jar is brimming with a vibrant, contrasting cascade of multi-colored vintage French glass marbles, creating a delightful interplay of light and color that fills the room. We have presented them together, as they were found, creating a perfect balance of textures and history. The jars including lids are 35cm in height. This pair would be a magnificent addition to a sophisticated curiosity cabinet, a rustic-chic kitchen, or as the centerpiece on an antique commode. Condition: Both jars are in excellent antique condition. As authentic 19th-century pieces, they feature inherent hand-blown bubbles and minor irregularities. The glass shows some period clouding. This is sold as a matching pair, complete with their entire marble collections.
