Green Yaobian Glaze Fengweizen Vase
This handmade Chinese fengweizun vase is produced in Jingdezhen and finished with a distinctive green copper yaobian glaze. The glaze varies from turquoise and blue-green to deeper tones, with areas of warm reddish-brown showing through. A fine crackled surface adds further depth and character. The elegant fengweizun form, sometimes known as a phoenix-tail vase, has a rounded body rising to a tall neck and widely flared rim. Each piece is handmade, and the unpredictable nature of the yaobian firing means that no two vases will have exactly the same finish. Jingdezhen has been an important centre of Chinese porcelain production for over 1,000 years and was home to the imperial kilns during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). Due to the handmade nature of these pieces, variations in colour, glaze and surface are to be expected.
