Bouillon Chartier, Paris
“This piece was inspired by a trip to Paris with my uni friends, we went just before the first set of final-year exams for our degrees. If someone had told me then that a year later, I’d be working in the art world, I would have been shocked (and probably quite relieved to know I wasn’t doing maths anymore).” “This painting feels particularly sentimental as it’s one of the first pieces I’ve created entirely for myself since I was 18. For the past few years, I’ve predominantly worked on commissions, which has taught me so much but I did miss painting what I wanted to paint.” “Bouillon Chartier was one of the restaurants we visited during that trip, and I’d highly recommend a visit! I took inspiration from its classic Parisian interiors, combining elements from other restaurants we came across with my own imagination to create this open-air scene and bar.” The piece is painted in oils on canvas, using heavy, textured palette knife techniques throughout. Size (including frame): 79cm x 104cm
