David Austin Susan Williams-Ellis Shrub Rose 6L
The Susan Williams Ellis English Shrub Rose from David Austin Roses is soft and beautiful. A delightful, unassuming rose of typical Old Rose beauty. It is a pure white sport of the pink English Rose, ‘The Mayflower’. The remarkable thing about these two roses is that, in so far as we are aware, they are completely free from disease. The medium-strong fragrance is perfectly Old Rose in character. It is extremely winter hardy, with upright, bushy, twiggy growth. The rose is named for Susan Williams-Ellis who was a designer and founded Portmeirion Pottery alongside her husband Euan Cooper-Willis. Susan was a great enthusiast of the English Roses and painted some beautiful water colours of them. Introduced in 2010, this rose is suitable for all soil types and thrives in partial or full sunlight. It is ideal for brightening up mixed borders or celebrating in rose borders and hedges. Versatile, the shrub also does well in pots and containers, for a more mobile splash of colour and scent. After approximately three years of annual pruning, the Susan Williams Ellis will be about 110cm tall and 90cm wide, with a delicious Old Rose scent and medium blooms. As a repeat flowerer, this bush will give you fragrant flushes of flowers from late spring to early winter.
