Exuma Messenger Bag
Made in collaboration with Jasper Boroson of Harbinger Studio, we spent the past 8 months creating a bag with organic shapes and skin-like responses paired with industrial staples and hardware to create the ‘exuma 1 messenger bag’ Only 5 of these bags will be produced in order to preserve the integrity of the quality and precision achieved by having one leather craftsman producing all parts from the inside out. Boroson works from his brooklyn studio where he specializes in leather goods with less chemically treated hides to show the unique scars and textures of the skin. the ‘exuma 1 messenger bag’ is made from exuma lamb skin that has been vegetable tanned. the process uses natural vegetable tannins to change the protein structure within the hide, changing it from a raw animal skin into leather. the organic substances applied in the process preserves the scars and cosmetic irregularities that would be otherwise wiped clean from chemical treatments or plastic coatings. To compliment to organicness of the hide, on the side of each bag is a pattern mimicking skin being pulled, revealing dark matte suede beneath the glossy exterior. Each uniquely 1 of 1 bag will be individually labeled with its corresponding number with a silver industrial staple. the bag is large enough to fit a 13’’ macbook within its computer pocket as well as ample space for bottles and other goods in the front two bondage secured cargo pockets. the belt-like strap is adjustable with Italian silver hardware to turn the bag from a cross-body to a shoulder bag.
