Beauty has long been a part of the Catholic Church, and the painted interior of this real church from the 19th Century is a great example of that. At its best, the interior or a church lifts us up and delivers us closer to God by using Beauty. Beauty is why we’re in the business. God could have given us a drab world, washed out, gray, insipid. But instead, he lets us have Beauty. The presence of Beauty reminds of us God. Beauty comes from God. It helps fulfill our lives and give us dignity. Beauty, Truth, and Goodness are what the church calls the Transcendentals. They exist outside of nature. We could have evolved with grayness and insipidness if it was only a matter of survival and natural selection. Jules Victor Génisson (1805-1860) was a Belgian painter. He studied at eh Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He found his niche and made his living travelling Western Europe painting pictures of church interiors. You can see in this one that he also had a knack for painting figures and sharing vignettes inside those interiors. This painting sold in 2016 for 15,000 Euros. There is a blank border around the image. Approximately 0.5" wide for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11, 1.6" for 11x14, and 1.75" for 13x17 and 16x20. For the two poster sizes, 18x24 and 24x36, we use 0.5" borders. We do this because the ratio of the rectangle of the art almost never matches the rectangle of the paper, and if it did happen to match one size, it would not match the others. Most fine art printers do this because otherwise they’d have to crop the art or warp it to make it fit the paper. The border looks good. It gives the picture a faux matted appearance.There is almost always a little more border either on the left-right sides, or the top-bottom, depending on whether the ratio of the art is wider or taller than the paper.
