An ash-covered Shida-yu chawan by Kan Matsuzaki, a ceramic artist based in Mashiko. This chawan features the translucent, pure white glaze characteristic of Shida-yu, with a quiet stream of blue ash-fired kiln effects flowing across its surface. While the overall impression is as clear and pristine as ice, subtle layers of clay, ash, and firing variations emerge within the glaze, giving the piece a gentle sense of depth. The lower section has been carved differently, adding a distinct change in texture and expression. Inside the bowl, a softly green-tinged landscape appears, offering a quiet depth that differs from the white and blue tones of the exterior. Around the foot, the exposed clay also shows natural kiln effects, beautifully conveying the organic fluctuations unique to anagama firing. It is a distinctive work that fully expresses the strength and beauty of wood firing. Width 12cm/Height 7.8cm With the original signed wooden box and matching cloth.
