SIZE GUIDE AND OTHER PRODUCT DETAILS Textile Origin Story: No. 116 refers to the Shakespearean Sonnet. I have done this painting twice. The first time I stole a brand new pair of my husband's skis. The skis had been rendered useless as the shop had put one of the bindings upside down. It was in the summer so he didn't notice they were missing. I took them to my place, slightly scuffed the top coat and painted two intertwined snakes on this massive set of boards. I took them to a local body shop and had an automotive clear coat applied. We had a gathering with his family for his and our brother-in-law's 40th birthdays and I presented him with the skis. They had been in the rocket box on the top of my car for about a week - he never noticed that either. It may possibly be the one and only time I have ever properly surprised him with a gift! I got a box big enough from a local shipper and wrote Shakespeare's entire sonnet on the box and named the painting "An Ever-Fixed Mark." Years later I was commissioned to turn it into a very large traditional stretched canvas painting that eventually ended up in Africa. It was this second painting that became the textile file. Over the last year I have been experimenting with dropping out the backgrounds of my paintings and drawings so I can lay them over other patterns. This was an exceptionally challenging project because in the original painting the snakes went off all four sides of the canvas (you can see that in yoga mat No. 116). For the textile to work in this dress I had to rebuild huge sections of both snakes - so I taught myself to do that in photoshop.
