Tall Meadow Rue (Potted)

Tall meadow rue is a native perennial valued for its height, fine-textured foliage, and airy white flower plumes that bring softness to shaded, moisture-rich plantings. Offered as potted stock grown in root-prune pouches, it can be planted through the growing season when conditions allow, making it well suited for riparian areas, wet meadows, and woodland edges. Botanically known as Thalictrum pubescens, this species produces tall stems topped with feathery white plumes in summer, creating a light, cloud-like effect in shaded landscapes. Native to the Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast, it is often found in floodplains and moist woodland settings. Tall meadow rue typically grows 3 to 7 feet tall with a spread of 2 to 3 feet, forming an upright presence in planting designs. It grows in full shade to part sun and establishes in a range of soils including clay, loam, and organic planting areas, from well-drained to poorly drained conditions and in consistently moist to wet sites when planted into a well-prepared site. This species fits well in riparian plantings, wet meadows, and naturalized woodland edges where height and seasonal texture are needed. It supports caterpillars of native moths including Canadian owlet, pink-patched looper, hitched arch, and speckled cutworm, making potted stock grown in root-prune pouches a practical way to incorporate this native perennial into moisture-driven landscapes.
