Vintage Mens 1940s 1950s Sports Suit Back Belted Jacket & Breeches Grey Wool 38" Short

An outstanding vintage late 1940s or early 1950s Finnish back-belted jacket & breeches suit, stylishly tailored with some super details from a fairly heavyweight wool cavalry twill fabric in dark grey. The jacket is 3-button single-breasted, with broad notch lapels, heavily padded shoulders, fitted waist, 4 pleated patch pockets with buttoning scalloped flaps, cuffs with 3 decorative buttons, scalloped rear shoulder yoke & attached back belt with trapped pleats between; fitted with chunky greenish moulded plastic 'football' buttons & lined in bronze satiny fabric with striped sleeve linings. The breeches are cut in the classic style with wide thighs, flat front, full-cut seat, button fly & braces buttons, tunnel belt loops at the front & narrow trapezoid ones at the back, 2 front welted pockets, front watch or cash pocket & 2 rear flapped pockets, no openings at the calf sides so that you don't have to wear them with long socks or tall boots, scalloped front hem & elastic stirrups. No maker's labels present; I've heard this type of suit referred to in Finland as a 'driver's suit', presumably as they resemble what chauffeurs wore - stylistically it could easily pass for pre-war. All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent): Jacket Chest - armpit to armpit: 21" (53cm) Shoulder to shoulder: 18 1/2" (47cm) Shoulder to cuff: 23" (58.5cm) [about 1" to let down] Armpit to cuff: 16" (40.5cm) Waist: 18 3/4" (47.5cm) Back length - base of collar to hem: 26 1/2" (67cm) Breeches waist: 16 1/2" (42cm) [nothing to let out] Inside leg to hem: 24 1/2" (81cm) Inside leg to knee: approx. 11" (28cm) Outside leg in a straight line: 36" (91.5cm) Rise - crotch seam to top of waistband: 12 1/2" (32cm) Leg width at calf: approx 7" (18cm) Leg width at hem: 6" (15cm) Condition: In excellent condition with light wear overall - there is some minor surface wear & a few faint marks to the fabric - the jacket has slight discolouration on the collar fold, the lining has some discolouration, marks & snags. The breeches have 2 tiny moth nips at the crotch, a very faint patch of yellowing to the bottom left of the fly, the waist hook & bearer button are a bit loose, a small black spot on the outer left thigh, some stains & marks to the elastic stirrups. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but not cleaned.
