Artist Statement On my way to the beach I passed an almost absurdly tall grove of palms. Long slender trunks with bunches of coconuts rising to improbably heights. They stood as sentinels watching over the beach. The beach was scattered with shells and coral. Broken, whole, sun-worn. Everything catching the light in different ways. This work gathers those impressions with chalky strokes and layers of batik inspired pattern.
