Vancouver-based trombonist, recording artist and educator Kevin (KJ) Jackson is known across Western Canada and recognised for his versatility in orchestral, jazz, and commercial music settings. Kevin performs with a multitude of ensembles including: The Purple Comet Orchestra; Symphony 21 (where he serves as principal trombone and founding board member); The Vancouver Jazz Orchestra; Jaelem Bhate Jazz Orchestra; Chris Berner Big Band; and Bonnie Northgraves “Big Loud”. With his musicianship also spanning traditional jazz, funk, and fusion, KJ’s playing is featured on multiple recordings such as Hymns and On the Edge with the Jaelem Bhate Jazz Orchestra, and Acoustic Alloy with the Vancouver Brass Collective. Commercially, KJ records for film, television and media, and is the brass recording artist with Pandemonia Music. His broad stylistic fluency is further informed by studies with leading artists including Andy Martin, Wycliffe Gordon, and Delfeayo Marsalis. A dedicated educator, KJ serves as Director of Bands at West Point Grey Academy in Vancouver, where he leads a comprehensive programme including concert band, jazz ensemble, and music theory. He also maintains a private studio for brass students and is committed to fostering musical excellence through both performance and education. KJ Jackson holds a Master of Music in Orchestral Trombone from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge. Kevin Jackson performs on a Rath Custom R3F with a red brass bell and tuning slide, and yellow brass hand slide with a 31 leadpipe. He also plays on a Rath Custom R10 trombone with a nickel silver bell and hand slide, and a gold brass tuning slide.
