Vintage Japanese Ceramic Chaire Tea Ceremony Matcha Container
A charming vintage Japanese Ceramic Chaire, a tea container used to store matcha powder for use in traditional Tea ceremony. Mid 20th Century, Zeze ware from Otsu, near Kyoto. A lustrous dark brown and black glazed body with an accent of creamy glaze dripping down on one side. The lid, gilded on the inside to protect the tea, Is made from some type of plastic. Traditionally in earlier times these were made from Ivory and bone, thankfully not anymore. Comes with a draw string bag in blue and gold. Found on my most recent trip to Kyoto in May 2026 Measures approx 8.5cm wide x 4.5cm tall
