A Flintlock Blunderbuss by Hadley of London. With three-stage round barrel, belled at the muzzle, fitted with a sprung bayonet above, stamped with London proofs at the breech, plain tang with bayonet release catch, border engraved stepped lock, signed ‘HADLEY’ (feint) cock engraved en-suite, full-stocked in walnut, cut with chequering at the wrist, with brass mounts comprising engraved butt-plate, border engraved side-plate and trigger guard decorated with a flower on the bow with acorn finial, turned ramrod pipes and horn tipped ramrod. Noted for series of silver-mounted pistols with Spanish-style barrels: two pairs in the Royal Collection, Windsor, and one in the Tower Armouries. Died 1773. Howard L.
