REINVENTION 重塑 SHANGHAI, CHINA, 17—18 JUNE 2026 Reinvention becomes necessary when beauty alone no longer compels. Held in a repurposed factory space in Shanghai, this two-day workshop marks our third year returning to China with our esteemed partner Monster Hua Hua (@怪兽花花大当家 on Xiao Hong Shu / @monsterhuahua_events). Together, we explore reinvention in floral design — not as a style, but as a rethinking of what flowers can do. Flowers are often used to decorate, to celebrate, to mark occasions. We begin there, and then ask what else they can become. Here, reinvention means expanding the role of flowers: from decoration to something more searching, more personal. What if an arrangement is not only meant to please, but to reveal something, to hold tension, or to express a point of view? Through a series of individual, paired and group exercises, participants will work with plants and flowers to rethink and reinvent their own practice. You may be asked to work with materials you would usually avoid, to respond directly to the roughness of the space, or to step into another person’s work and continue it. Exercises such as “Creating the Opposite” invite participants to imagine the shadow side of a colleague’s work—what lies just beyond their usual instincts, strengths or habits. In doing so, reinvention becomes not about abandoning what you know, but about discovering its edges and expanding beyond them. No prior experience is required—only an openness to experiment, to question, and to see things differently.
