Looking for a unique and thrilling experience that will take you back in time? Look no further than our engine driver experiences! Experience the power and excitement of driving a real locomotive, as you control the engine and navigate the rails. Your unforgettable adventure will see you on the footplate, taking charge of the engine, learning how to start and stop, and control speed and direction, all under the watchful eye of an experienced driver. We’ll disconnect any rolling stock so it’s just you and the engine. At the end of the experience, you’ll receive a certificate to commemorate your time as a real engine driver. We have three exciting packages to choose from: (Coming soon) Bronze Diesel Experience (£60): a 45-minute diesel driver experience plus a tour of the engine sheds. Silver Steam Experience (£125): a 60-minute steam driver experience plus full site tour. Includes a £20 meal voucher to use at The Sidings restaurant. (Coming soon) Gold Steam Experience (£250): a half-day steam driver experience and full site tour, including lunch at The Sidings Restaurant. Opt for the 10.30am morning experience if you want to help prepare the engine for the day, drive and fire for the rest of the experience and then enjoy lunch and the site tour. Or, choose the afternoon experience and you will enjoy lunch and your site tour before firing the engine for the afternoon and helping with disposal and putting the engine to bed. Tips for making the most of your experience: Please arrive 10 minutes before your time slot and make yourself known at the ticket office. You may get dirty on these experiences so we suggest you don’t wear your best clothes. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the process and ensure your safety at all times – feel free to ask them lots of questions! Experiences are available to book on select weekend dates from March 2025. You will be able to select your slot as you progress through the booking process. Don’t forget your camera! Please note: the minimum age is 18 with no maximum age. No prior experience is necessary. Your height will ideally be at least 5 feet to be able to get the maximum enjoyment from your experience.
