2024, Domaine Y. Clerget, VOLNAY, 1er Cru, 'Carelle Sous Chapelle'

The 2024 Volnay En Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru is 100% de-stemmed with 25% new oak. It has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, wild hedgerow and light iris flower scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a bright entry, plenty of sucrosity compared to the other cuvées with a precise finish. This is very promising. 91-93 Neal Martin.Thibaud worked with more lees here and though the wine has been racked it has not yet had any sulphur. This has not changed the nose but has added deeper fruit on the palate with quite a crunch at the finish. The fruit returns behind and persists. Stylish and characterful at the same time.
