The glaze unfolds in soft, pale tones of sand and mineral green — reminiscent of a quiet shoreline where water gently recedes. Subtle vertical flows and delicate transitions evoke the slow movement of tides, leaving behind traces shaped by time and gravity. Inside, the glaze gathers into a smooth, slightly deeper pool, where muted green hues emerge more clearly, recalling shallow water catching the light. These natural variations are kiln-formed and unrepeatable, giving each cup its own quiet character. The form is compact and gently rounded, fitting comfortably in the hand. Its proportions make it versatile across brewing styles — equally suited for gongfu tea, matcha shots, or even coffee servings. A calm, adaptable piece that reflects balance and restraint — bringing attention back to texture, warmth, and the fluid nature of tea. Written by Gabriele About the artist Başak Egeli is a ceramic artist based north of the Sea of Marmara, where she built her atelier next to her countryside home. After a career as an attorney, she chose to fully dedicate herself to working with clay — driven by a strong, personal connection to the material. Her approach is defined by restraint and honesty. She allows the clay to remain visible, embracing natural textures, irregularities, and transitions. Her glazes draw from landscapes around her — sand, earth, and water — translated into understated, functional forms. Her work is meant to be used daily, where aesthetic and function converge in simple rituals like preparing tea. In the video below, discover how we met Başak in Turkey and how the Nannuoshan collection came to life.
