ABOUT THE SERIES Rewilding is a botanical allegory about finding our way back to our true nature, the part of ourselves that lives in pure alignment with our authentic self. In this series, that search is explored through flowers, cultivated garden blooms, and untamed wildflowers. Wildflowers represent the instinctive part of us that longs to return home, to a place of simplicity, honesty, and inner truth. Cultivated garden blooms, tended and nurtured through human care, reflect the parts of ourselves that have been tamed, disciplined, and shaped by life. Suspended against deep, atmospheric backgrounds, the botanicals feel both alive and contemplative, embodying the complexity and wonder of nature itself. Rewilding is about finding the balance, a reminder that our true nature does not lie in choosing between the wild and the cultivated, but in allowing both to exist in harmony. CARLA'S NOTES ABOUT THE WORK: Rewilding was created at a time in my life when I was searching for a different way of living. I didn’t have a clear vision of what that would look like, and I couldn’t find the words to express it. I had a deep desire to return to the feminine part of myself, the quiet, slow, nurturing, and creative part that longed for something new and to leave the masculine action-oriented energy that had ruled my life behind. I picked up my camera and started creating these photos, searching Paris’s best florists for otherworldly wildflowers like greater masterwort and love-in-a-mist that I had never seen before, but felt wild and free, and the best of the cultivated garden flowers that were exquisitely beautiful, like peonies and ruffled sweet peas that felt like the tamed part of the woman I had become. It was an unconscious yearning for a profound change, something slower, wilder, and less domesticated. Little did I know, as I layered each flower one on top of the other, searching for the balance between the wild and the tame, the beauty and the extraordinary in the photo, I was mindfully laying the path of my deepest desires, to refind my way back to a life connected to nature. To shake off a life that had become predictable for one that felt exciting and new. Rewilding was the precursor for one of the most courageous changes in my life, moving to Greece and inhabiting part of myself that had been forgotten for years. Each image has a name and a message, an attribute such as honesty, introspection, resilience, and courage, a nod to what is required of us on the path home to our authentic self and a life that feels right for us.
