Designed around the tone and detail associated with classic Telefunken ELA M 251-style microphones, the Colares delivers a harmonically rich, larger-than-life sound without using a tube circuit. Handbuilt by Roswell Pro Audio in Northern California, the Colares is made for engineers, producers, and artists who want a vocal mic with color, depth, and presence—not a sterile or overly neutral sound. Its transformer-balanced output, selected 34mm edge-terminated capsule, and low-noise FET design help capture expressive vocals with clarity, body, and musical detail. Vintage-Inspired Vocal Tone with Modern Reliability The Colares was designed to bring the detail and vintage tone of classic tube microphones into a solid-state FET condenser format. The result is a vocal microphone with richness, articulation, and harmonic character while avoiding the maintenance needs and noise floor associated with tube microphones. Pad/Voicing Switch for More Flexibility A built-in 10dB pad switch reduces input level for louder sources and also changes the microphone’s harmonic character. Engaging the pad can help deliver a cleaner, more modern response when the full richness of the Colares is more than the source needs. 3-Way Low-Frequency Filter Instead of a simple high-pass filter, the Colares includes a 3-way bass response switch for shaping low frequencies in real time. This makes it easy to control proximity effect, tighten up bass-heavy sources, or preserve fullness when the mic is placed farther away. Handbuilt and Thoroughly Tested Each Colares microphone is handbuilt in Roswell’s Northern California shop, burned in for at least 24 hours, and tested before receiving the Roswell badge.
