The Green Centre's Veggie Mix is a nutrient-rich soil blend, made in-house specifically for vegetable gardens. Combining rich loam, compost and manure it has more body and a heavier texture than our Botanical Blend, giving seedlings the structure, drainage and nutrients they need to establish and keep producing. Whether you're starting a new veggie patch from scratch or topping up an existing garden bed, Veggie Mix sets up your garden and provides a great excuse to get the kids outdoors and involved in where their food comes from. Frequently Asked Questions Where do you deliver to? We deliver to most properties across Metro Melbourne. If you're just outside metro, please provide your address and I'd be happy to let you know if we service your suburb. How much does delivery cost? Delivery costs vary depending on the volume ordered, your location, and how many truck trips are needed to complete the order. If you'd like to give me your address and what you're after (soil, mulch or compost, and how much), I'd be happy to work out a quote for you. Can I pick up soil, mulch or compost from your yard? Yes - soil, mulch and Dig In Compost can all be picked up at our Keilor Park yard during trading hours, as well as ordered online for delivery. You'll need a trailer or ute that can handle the load. 48 Stadium Drive, Keilor Park. Is soil, mulch or compost delivered loose, or in bags? All of our soil, mulch and Dig In Compost is delivered loose (not bagged) by truck. It's worth having a tarp down at the delivery spot so it's easy to move and clean up afterwards. What do I need to do to prepare for my delivery? We recommend laying a tarp down in your designated delivery area - as everything is tipped loosely, this makes it much easier to move and clean up. It's also important that the spot is somewhere our trucks can safely access and navigate to. Will my order arrive in one delivery, or will I need multiple? That depends on the volume you order. Our trucks can carry a maximum of roughly 6m³ of mulch or 3.5–4m³ of soil per load, so larger orders may need more than one truckload to complete, which can incur additional delivery fees. If you let us know the volume you're after, we can confirm upfront whether it will need multiple trips. What if my street is narrow or my property is hard to access? Please let us know as early as possible, ideally well before your scheduled delivery. Our trucks need reasonable access to tip safely, so if there are any tight streets, low branches or narrow driveways, flagging this in advance means we can plan the best way to get your order to you. Can soil and mulch be delivered together in the same trip? It depends on the volumes involved and truck capacity - soil and mulch can be loaded on one truck however since the trucks have different maximum loads for each (around 3.5–4m³ for soil vs up to 6m³ for mulch). Let us know what you need and we'll do our best to combine deliveries where possible to save on fees. Do you offer next day delivery? Order now for next day delivery in most cases, subject to truck and stock availability. Which soil should I use for my vegetable garden or flower bed? Botanical Blend is the one to go for - it's our most popular variety and is suited to both vegetable gardens and general garden use. What is Turf Loam and when do I need it? Turf Loam is our specialty sandy loam soil, used as a base under instant turf or when seeding and laying a lawn - it provides excellent drainage and a firm, level structure for your turf to establish. Note: Turf Loam incurs a separate delivery fee to any turf ordered alongside it, so let us know if you're ordering both. How much soil do I need for my garden bed? It's based on the area (m²) you're covering and the depth you need - as a guide, soil depths generally range from 50mm to 300mm depending on what it's for (topping up a bed vs filling a raised garden). Measure your area and multiply by your desired depth to get the volume in m³. If you're unsure, let us know your measurements and we can help you work it out. Do I need to mix in compost or fertiliser with the soil? Botanical Blend already has manure mixed through it, so it's ready to plant into as-is. For an extra boost, particularly in clay or nutrient-poor soils, digging through some Dig In Compost is a great way to add extra organic matter and improve structure. Will the soil settle or compact over time? Yes, this is completely normal - loose soil naturally settles as it beds in, especially after rain or watering. It's worth ordering a little extra or being prepared to top up after the first few weeks if you need it flush with existing garden beds or paving.
