Key Features Start with Storage Prepared for Your Mac My Passport Ultra for Mac is ready for normal file storage on supported macOS computers, without an initial reformat. Give your media, completed projects and document archive a dedicated home beyond the computer's internal drive. Basic drive compatibility begins at macOS 11; backup and security applications have their own newer requirements, so check the software you plan to use before configuring a particular workflow. Connect Through USB-C or USB-A The native USB-C connector works with the supplied SuperSpeed USB-C to USB-C cable for a compatible computer. Attach the included USB-C to USB-A adapter when your host uses a suitable USB-A port. Both data and operating power come through USB, keeping the everyday setup simple and avoiding a separate mains adapter in your laptop bag. Keep the USB Link and Drive Speed in Perspective USB 3.2 Gen 1 provides a connection rated up to 5Gb/s. That figure describes the USB link rather than a guaranteed hard-drive file-transfer speed. Your computer, connection and file sizes influence actual results. My Passport Ultra is a practical destination for media collections, documents and supported backup copies when generous portable storage matters more than SSD-class access times. Build a Backup Routine You Can Maintain Acronis True Image for Western Digital supports scheduled computer backups and features that help protect against ransomware on supported systems. Its supported workflow can preserve the operating system, applications, settings and locally stored content. Download, installation and activation with a compatible WD device are required under the included software offer. Keep original files alongside your backup, so valuable content remains in more than one place. Put Private Content Behind a Password Built-in 256-bit AES hardware encryption works with supported WD Security software to enable password protection. This is useful when a drive carries personal documents or work files away from your desk. Current WD Security supports Windows 11 and macOS 14, 15 and 26; Macs with Apple silicon require Rosetta 2. Record your password securely, because WD support cannot recover a forgotten drive password. Access Files from a Supported Windows Computer WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for reading and writing on supported Windows 10 or later computers without reformatting the drive. This can help when a Mac-based collection also needs access from a compatible Windows system. Driver-based file access is separate from Acronis and WD Security support, and a particular application may need a different supported file-system arrangement. Choose a Considered Portable Design The distinctive metal design gives the drive a polished finish beside a laptop or workstation. Its enclosure uses more than 50% post-consumer recycled plastic, and the fully recyclable packaging contains over 50% post-consumer recycled pulp. These material details sit alongside a compact, USB-powered design intended to keep a useful file collection close, whether you are working at home, at your desk or between locations. Support Everyday Storage with a Clear Warranty A three-year manufacturer limited warranty covers the hardware under the applicable country-of-purchase terms. Treat the unit as a mechanical hard drive: keep it stable while transferring files and safely eject it before disconnecting. For irreplaceable photos, project work and personal documents, maintain another copy on a separate device or suitable backup service rather than relying on a single portable drive. Summary WD My Passport Ultra for Mac brings Mac-ready storage, a metal design and flexible USB connections to a compatible computer setup. Give growing libraries room, carry completed work or build a supported backup routine, with hardware encryption and optional security software adding protection for private files.
