The Moorooduc Estate Pinot Noir is the heart of the family's Estate range, a Mornington Peninsula Pinot made with a Burgundian sensibility. Richard and Jill McIntyre established Moorooduc in 1982, making it one of the peninsula's pioneering wineries, and it remains family-owned with Richard and Kate McIntyre MW leading the winemaking. The 2023 draws on the McIntyre home block and several neighbouring sites, bringing together a range of soils, aspects and clones from across the peninsula. The fruit is hand-picked and destemmed, fermented with wild yeasts and handled gently, with French oak used in a restrained way so the fruit stays in front. As with all Moorooduc reds, it is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Pale ruby with garnet tones, it opens with ripe red and black cherry, rose petal, a hint of pomegranate and warm spice notes of coriander seed and cardamom. The palate is led by red cherry with touches of lavender and rosewater, soft and velvety tannins and crisp acidity, finishing long and tangy. Bright and aromatic with some savoury depth, it is lovely now and will also cellar well. Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
