Pair of 1960s German Doria Leuchten Wall Light
Pair of mid-century modern wall sconces manufactured in Germany during the 1960s by the prominent lighting company Doria Leuchten. A defining characteristic of the design is the heavy use of textured ice glass which was a hallmark of premium European lighting during this era. Each fixture features six individual, hand-blown cylindrical glass tubes arranged vertically on a curved frame. The outer surface of the glass is moulded to mimic the texture of frozen ice, which beautifully diffuses the light across a room while concealing the two candle lightbulb silhouettes inside. The individual glass cylinders mount securely onto a solid, high-quality white lacquered frame and a curved chrome feature strip around the top and bottom. There is a small hole in each tube which allows them to be hooked onto the frame. When illuminated, the thick glass refracts the light outward to create a warm, ambient glow with subtle patterns along the surrounding wall surface. The clean lines and heavily textured crystal glass make them highly adaptable, fitting seamlessly into mid-century, Hollywood Regency, or contemporary interiors. The white lacquer behind the tubes is discoloured due the frames being sixty years old but this issue is concealed by the tubes. The tubes do not have any chips or cracks. The polished chrome is in very good condition. An adjustable pull cord allows them to be turned off at the wall but this can be removed if you have them connected to a wall switch if you wish. The lights have been rewired by a professional electrician to UK standards and are in full working order. Two E14 LED candle bulbs. Dimmable if they're wired to a dimmer switch otherwise they will flicker and eventually blow. Dimensions: Width: 22cm Depth: 11cm Height: 22cm Tube Height: 20cm Diameter: 4cm
