Where it came from Post industrial Douglas fir out of decommissioned warehouses and deconstructed homes throughout California, milled in house in North San Juan. Most of it starts life as 2x6 framing stock, which is why the standard 4.75 inch face is what we carry deepest. This is timber that held up buildings for the better part of a century, so it comes out dense and stable rather than soft. How it differs from redwood Fir brings a different look from redwood. The grain is harder and straighter, and the color runs warm amber to honey once the weathering is brushed or cut back. It takes a finish well and it wears harder underfoot. Choose your face • Rustic. The face as it comes off the mill, standard, no upcharge. • Wire brushed. Grain raised and softened. Add $1.00 per square foot. • Sanded to 120 grit. Smooth and ready for finish. Add $2.00 per square foot. Choose your width • Standard, 4.75 in. face. Milled from 2x6, our deepest stock. • Wide plank, 6.75 in. face. Needs wider salvage, so it runs a premium. • Extra wide plank, 8.5 in. face. The widest we mill, from the largest timbers we recover. Choose your length • 48 in. standard. • 59.5 in. extra long, add $1.00 per square foot. Custom milling Beyond what you can order above, we cut 8 ft lengths, up to 16 ft lengths, and custom profiles including beadboard. For flooring we recommend 1 in. thick stock, and we stock a standard 1 in. x 4.75 in. x 6 ft tongue and groove with relief cuts in the back. Custom work is quoted per job.
