Edwardian 18K White Gold Old Mine Cut Diamond Filigree Earrings
These elongated 18k white gold filigree earrings have an exquisite design that is lace-like with floral openings and zig zags. Old Mine Cut diamonds are bead set throughout the lacy filigree work, and the design is divided by a central downward line with more Old Mine Cut and Old European Cut diamonds down either side of it. The earrings contain a variety of Old Mine Cuts that range in shape from square to cushion to the traditional round. The combination creates exquisite sparkle, enhanced by a lace-like quality. The way the sparkle and negative space work together is very pretty, and because you can see light shining through the earrings, the diamonds have a luminescent quality. The longer length of the earrings give them presence. The bar-shaped bottom element of the earring dangles from the arrow-shaped portion at the top, giving the earrings nice movement. Combined, the earrings contain 32 natural antique diamonds, and a TCW of approximately 2.30 carats. There is approximately 2 carats of Old Mine Cuts and 1/3 carat of Old European Cuts. The diamonds are G-L in color and VS2-SI2 in clarity. The earrings measure 2 1/8” from top to bottom and 7/16” wide. Combined, they weigh 9.7 grams. The earrings test as 18k gold, with the exception of the shepherd’s hook earring wire which tests as 14k gold. Judging by the design of the earrings, which is reminiscent of an Edwardian bar pin, these earrings might have been converted from a pin into earrings. But the conversion was done so well, it is hard to tell if they were ever anything other than earrings. We love them in their current iteration! They would make beautiful bridal earrings, are perfect for any special occasion, and could even grace the red carpet. For pierced ears.
