Albert Iremonger – The Life and Times of a Notts County Legend
Albert Iremonger was born in the village of Wilford in Nottingham where he had five brothers and five sisters. On leaving school, he went to work in the local Jardines factory where he trained to build machinery used in the manufacture of lace. He was soon turning out for both the cricket and football works teams. It wasn't long before both Nottingham Forest and Notts County were alerted to his outstanding potential and both played him in trials, but it was the Magpies who won his signature. At 6 feet 5½ inches, he was the tallest player in the Football League at that time but he also had an amazing reach which doctors confirmed was too much – even for a man of his height. He was selected twice to represent the Football League and also had an England trial, without ever receiving the call. Albert's 21-year career in goal for County saw him make a total of 601 Football League and F.A. Cup appearances for the magpies. He was an all-round sportsman who also had five years at Nottinghamshire CCC followed by four summers as the professional at Aberdeenshire CC before coaching cricket at The Leys private school in Cambridge. After his professional sporting days were over, he continued to play locally well into his later years – especially if it meant a charity would benefit. Published in 2026. Size: 210mm x 297mm – 214 pages.
