Attractive map of the Caribbean islands, including the portions of the United States and Mexico bordering the Gulf of Mexico, Central America, and the northern coast of South America. The routes of several explorers are depicted, including those of Hernán Cortés, Juan Ponce de León, and Hernández de Córdoba, along with numerous coastal place names. A delicately engraved Rococo-style title cartouche, incorporating a distance scale, fills the upper right.
