Chikuhodo S-KW6 Kiwami "Sō" (Creation) 7-Brush Set (LIMITED)

Every few years Chikuhodo opens the drawer where it keeps the hair it couldn't bear to use on anything ordinary, and builds a Kiwami set. This is the sixth, and it's called Sō — Creation — because the workshop has never put these materials together in this arrangement before. Three of them do the work. Saibikoho is the rarest grade of goat hair Chikuhodo holds: tips drawn so fine they look almost translucent, with a hand so soft the brush seems to be drawn along the skin rather than over it. Kolinsky is its opposite — real spring and snap through the body, tips that stay startlingly soft, so colour lands exactly where you aim it and blends without dragging. And on the largest brush, red fox and gray squirrel are blended: fox for smooth, measured resilience, squirrel for the airiness at the very tip. Each handle is turned from ebony, dark and close-grained, carrying the character 「極」 in brushmaker Tesshyu's own hand, reproduced in gold by a special printing technique. The seven arrive in a pale wooden presentation box lined in crimson, the same character stamped on its lid. Only 50 sets have been made. Fox gives it composure, squirrel gives it air, and together they lay powder down in a soft, even veil with a quiet luminosity — no patches, no edges.
