Starlight

Caddo Lake Night settles differently over Caddo Lake. Beneath a vast field of stars, ancient cypress trees rise from the dark water, their branches layered in Spanish moss and their silhouettes reaching into the sky. Below, lily pads drift across the glassy surface, catching traces of color while reflections disappear into the shadows. To preserve the Milky Way and the remarkable detail of the stars overhead, the night sky was captured with a long exposure that moved in harmony with the stars. A second exposure revealed the cypress trees, lily pads and quiet detail of the foreground, allowing the full scene to come together naturally. The result reveals the full depth of the landscape, from the still water below to the endless sky beyond. With the familiar world stripped away, the swamp takes on an almost otherworldly presence—quiet, mysterious and completely removed from time. Starlight captures that rare intersection of earth, water and sky, when the boundaries between the landscape and the heavens seem to disappear. Collaborative photograph.
