Ilyarnayt

Lily Lion Kngwarreye’s Ilyarnayt (Acacia Flower) Dreaming belongs to her Country, Ngkwarlerlaneme and Arnkawenyerr. The artwork depicts the Ilyarn or Ilyarnayt, a rare plant found throughout Central Australia. The plant is valued for the edible grubs found among its roots, while its seeds, known as Ntang Ilyarnayt, are collected, ground into a paste and used to make damper. The story reflects the importance of plants as sources of food and cultural knowledge. Lily Lion Kngwarreye is an Alyawarre artist from Utopia, recognised for her fine dotwork and brushwork and extensive exhibition history.
