Herman Knives Ovium Gen 2 Wave Milled – M398
The Herman Knives Ovium Gen 2 represents a complete rethinking of the original Ovium, introducing a new profile built around blade capacity, ergonomics, and controlled proportions. Rather than simply refining its predecessor, Bartosz Herman developed a distinct design that accommodates a 4.06-inch blade within a comparatively compact 5.31-inch handle. Grade 5 titanium scales feature continuous wave milling that follows the handle’s sweeping contours, with matching machining carried onto the titanium pocket clip. The result is a full-sized folder with an unmistakable profile and a strong emphasis on functional design. The 4.06-inch modified sheepsfoot blade is manufactured from Böhler M398 stainless steel, hardened to 62–63 HRC and finished with a flat grind. Its very shiny stonewashed finish approaches a mirror-like appearance across the blade faces, while the hammered spine introduces a contrasting texture along the upper edge. The flipper tab provides one-handed deployment, and the knife measures 9.29 inches overall with a weight of 5.36 ounces. Herman’s proprietary ceramic caged bearing system supports the blade, complemented by a ceramic detent ball and tungsten carbide lock insert. The Titanium Inset Liner Lock maintains the clean exterior of the handle without a conventional frame lock cutout. Polished stainless steel hardware and Herman’s custom T20 pivot assembly complete the construction, along with a Grade 5 titanium backspacer. The Ovium Gen 2 reflects Herman’s approach to balancing cutting capability with comfortable handling. Its distinctive blade geometry, compact closed proportions, and precision-machined titanium construction set it apart from the more conventional profiles found elsewhere in his lineup. Individually numbered #0118 and produced September 21, 2026, this Ovium offers a different interpretation of Herman’s folding knife design.
