Rover 2000 TC White (275)
Launched in April 1968, this white edition of Corgi 275 (it was also available in metallic green) was only the second ‘Golden Jacks’ take-off wheels Corgi Toy to be introduced, closely following a Mini Marcos (Corgi 341) the previous month. From an era when Corgi were producing ever more exciting features, it was also given jewelled headlights, a tinted sun roof and a spare wheel contained in a small plastic enclosure mounted on the boot – just like the actual car! Based on the earlier Corgi 252 Rover 2000, the tooling was cleverly re-designed to facilitate the new ‘Golden Jacks’ mechanism – essentially a pull-down lever on the base that released the wheel and acted as a jack to support the model. Corgi went on to release two further ‘Golden Jacks’ models in 1968 – Corgi 276, Oldsmobile Toronado (in June) and Corgi 338, Chevrolet SS 350 Camaro (in August).
