Forms soft mounds of finely divided, glaucous (waxy) blue-green to silver-gray leaves. Bears vibrant clusters of small, wine-red, burgundy, or bright pink-to-purple flowers in spring and early summer. Summer/heat dormancy until the next cool season. Endemic to the United States, and thrives on dry, exposed rocky slopes in well-drained soils. Highly attractive to early-season pollinators like bees. Excellent for dry rock gardens and xeriscaping.
