Rwenzori
While Ethiopia is Africa's top coffee producer, Uganda is hot on its heels. Uganda stands as the continent's leading producer of Robusta and its Arabica sector has expanded rapidly, particularly in high-altitude regions like Mt. Elgon and the Rwenzori Mountains. Investments in farmer training, processing infrastructure, and quality improvement have elevated Uganda’s reputation as one of East Africa’s most exciting Arabica origins. After selective picking, fresh cherries are delivered to Kyagalanyi’s washing station where they undergo traditional natural processing. Whole cherries are sun dried on raised beds to preserve fruit flavors. Regular turning encourages even drying, boosts airflow, and prevents over-fermentation. Finally, an extended drying period develops the coffee’s rich, fruity character, emphasizing berry sweetness, deep chocolate, and wine-like aromatics.
