Desecration – Inhuman

Hailing from Wales, DESECRATION have been flying the flag for foul, all-caps DEATH METAL for over 30 years now. By the dawn of the new millennium, the band expanded to a quintet, with founding vocalist Ollie Jones handing the drum throne to Mike Hourihan (where he remains to this day) to solely focus on his brutal-yet-decipherable vocals and the short-lived addition of lead guitarist Jules. Likewise, DESECRATION had solidified their name not only as a dependable pillar of extremity but one that kept flying the flag for British death metal. Enter Inhuman, DESECRATION’s third album. Released in the year 2000, Inhuman largely followed the foundation of its predecessor, 1998’s Murder in Mind – grindcore-leaning death metal, both dizzying and crushing, with blasts and slams in equal measure – but added a number of dark, tasteful leads thanks to the aforementioned Jules. While Inhuman would also mark the end for founding rhythm guitarist Glenn Thomas, DESECRATION nevertheless burned with a fire that was palpable, with the crisp & sharp production amplifying this aspect tenfold. Suitably, the album was deadly swift and efficient at 29 minutes, arguably the ideal length for the band to go in for the kill – and get the fuck out.
