Super Beginner: Introduction to Sashiko Stitching - Sunday, August 16th 2pm - 5pm

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP In this 3-hour workshop, we're learning all about Sashiko stitching! Sashiko is a method of hand stitching that originated in Japan. It is characterized by intricate, repeating designs created by stitching with cotton thread. It is used for mending garments that are worn out, reinforcing high-wear areas, and to add beautiful geometric patterns just for fun. Sashiko stitching can be traced all the way back to the Edo period (1603–1868)! In a small group of up to 4 participants, you'll learn about the specific thread and needles used for Sashiko and create your own patch based on your choice of traditional or modern design. You'll take your needle and thread home with you at the end of the class so you can continue your stitching journey. WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS WORKSHOP Adults (16+) Super beginner: it's ok if this is your first time hand stitching. We'll start with the basics and you'll have lots of time in class to learn and practice. We can guide you on beginner-friendly templates for your first project. WHAT TO BRING/ WHAT'S INCLUDED All fabric patches, thread, needles, marking tools, and templates are provided. You will take home your Sashiko needle, the rest of your 40 metre thread, and 1-2 of your completed Sashiko patches.
