Pair of Original Pierre Jeanneret Armless Sofa Chairs
Pair of original armless sofa chairs designed by Pierre Jeanneret for Chandigarh, India, dating to the Chandigarh project period, circa 1955–1965. The chairs feature low, upholstered seats and inclined backs supported by Jeanneret’s characteristic solid-wood X-form / compass bases. Conceived as institutional seating, the design combines a simple upholstered body with the strongly architectural timber supports associated with Jeanneret’s Chandigarh furniture. Both chairs retain painted institutional inventory markings to the wooden bases, including block and room-number references, supporting their original Chandigarh institutional use. The markings remain partially legible and have been preserved as part of the chairs’ provenance Details Model / type: Armless Sofa Chair Origin: Chandigarh, India Date: circa 1955–1965 Material: Solid wood, upholstered seat and back Provenance: Chandigarh institutional use Markings: Original painted inventory stencils with block and room All prices include the full restoration of the piece.
