Weber - Overture to Turandot for Euphonium and Piano

The music from the Overture to Turandot, Op. 37 by Carl Maria von Weber, arranged by Ralph Sauer for Euphonium and Piano was inspired by a pentatonic theme (air chinois) Weber discovered in the Dictionnaire de la Musique. Weber was one of the first western composers to incorporate a Chinese theme into his work which became incidental music intended for a play by Schiller. Paul Hindemith later used the main theme from Weber's Turandot for his famous Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber (1943). This little gem is fun to play and listen to, is suitable for moderately advanced performers and is about four and a half minutes in length. Free PDF Sample
