Blood Parrot (Cichlasoma hybrid)

Known for their round bodies and permanent smiles, Blood Parrots are a unique fixture in the freshwater hobby. These fish are captive-bred hybrids with curious, outgoing personalities that often lead them to recognize their owners at feeding time. Because of their specialized mouth shape, they do best with sinking pellets or frozen foods they can easily scoop up. They aren't the best swimmers in a high-flow tank, so provide plenty of hiding spots and a moderate current where they can navigate comfortably. Requires a sandy substrate or smooth gravel to prevent injury while foraging. Best kept with peaceful or semi-aggressive tank mates of a similar size. Will appreciate ceramic pots or rock caves to claim as their own territory. Keep water conditions stable with a focus on high-quality filtration.
