Superb hand-coloured engraving, originally published in 1833 by Ackermann & Co. in London. A rare piece that accurately documents one of Canada's most spectacular natural sites. About the artist James Pattison Cockburn (1779–1847) was a British army officer, watercolourist, and engraver known for his depictions of Canada in the early 19th century. Born in New York and trained in topographical drawing at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich, he lived in Quebec from 1822 to 1823, and again from 1826 to 1832. During this period, he produced numerous views of Quebec City, Niagara Falls, and other Canadian landscapes, combining great architectural precision with remarkable artistic sensibility. His works today constitute a valuable historical record of pre-Confederation Canada's architecture, landscapes, and daily life.
