Rare pair of Large pale yellow glazed preserving crocks - 12½" x 11"

An exquisite, large pair of late 19th century French glazed earthenware preserve pots, likely from the Drôme. Generous in scale, each is wheel-thrown with a rounded ovoid body, pronounced shoulder, opposing lug handles, and a pretty flared collar neck. The surfaces carry a pale straw yellow lead glaze with natural tonal variation. These village-made pots belong to the southern French tradition of glazed terre cuite, where rural ateliers produced practical storage vessels for the kitchen and pantry. Forms of this type served for olives, cornichons, and other conserves, the wide collar accommodating cloth or waxed covers while the small lugs aided lifting. Surviving as a true pair, they speak to regional savoir-faire and everyday craft.
