Late 19th Century "La Flor De Carvalho" Havana Cigars Advertising Sign

Carvalho & Co. - Philadelphia, PA Lithographed tin advertising sign promoting La Flor De Carvalho Havana cigars, featuring an elaborate faux woodgrain background surrounding a richly detailed central portrait medallion of J. N. Carvalho framed by medals, floral motifs, and factory emblems. The sign bears the slogan, "None Genuine Without My Signature," and advertises I. N. Carvalho & Co., Makers, Philadelphia, reflecting the ornate graphic design and bold typography characteristic of premium cigar advertising during the late nineteenth century. The combination of vivid lithography, simulated wood finish, and embossed metal construction made signs such as this an effective point-of-sale advertisement for tobacconists, saloons, and cigar retailers. Displays age-related wear consistent with use and display. Surface wear is present throughout, with areas of paint loss exposing the underlying metal and resulting oxidation. The sign exhibits scattered scratches, abrasions, and several dents, including a noticeable dent near the lower right side. Both upper corners are bent, and additional edge wear is present.
